I can not stress enough the importance of indie artists presenting themselves professionally. It is important to remember that you should always do everything the way and to the quality that you want people to view you. This has never been so important as it is in today's Internet world (where the only contact somebody may have is your Web site and/or press kit).
Here are some tips:
Over 90% of band press kits end up in the trash instead of in the hands of music industry executives.(1) But creating a press kit does not need to be a daunting process. The good news is that you're the expert on you so all your research is on the tip of your tongue. It's just a matter of organizing and verbalizing that information in a way that shares your best face with the public whether it be a reporter, venue, fan or prospective sponsor.
The essential parts of a press kit are:
* pitch (aka cover letter)
* bio
* press release
* cd demo
* promo photo
Next time I will share more marketing tips for your indie artist career. Until then.....
